Head Coach Andrew Post and his Lady Bulldogs soccer team will open play in the Class 5A state soccer tournament in Searcy on Thursday at 2 p.m. But just their luck, their first-round opponent will be the Searcy Lady Lions playing on their home field at Searcy High School. Greenwood is the #4 seed from the 5A West and Searcy is the #1 seed from the 5A East. The Lady Bulldogs last reached the postseason in 2023 from the incredibly tough 5A West, home to some of the best girls prep soccer teams in Arkansas, winning multiple state championships.

Coach Post recently offered these comments about his team. “It has been quite a season for these ladies,” said the coach. “When we began the year, I mapped out which teams we needed to beat, which teams we needed to get points from to make the playoffs. These ladies did exactly what was needed in each of those games.

“Probably our biggest tests were Shiloh Christian and Harrison,” continued the coach. “When we tied Shiloh at our place the first conference game of the season, I felt we had a good group of players that could push for the playoffs. We won every game that was a must-win game and got a result in both games against Harrison to secure our spot in the playoffs.

“This has been one of the most special groups I have coached, and a team that gave me the best start to a season in my career. We went the first eight games of the season undefeated and finished the regular season 12-5-3. It has been such a fun ride, and we can't wait to face Searcy on Thursday,” concluded Post. The GHS girls finished 8-5-3 in conference play.

Should the Lady Bulldogs upset Searcy on Thursday, they will advance to the next round on Friday at 2 p.m. against the winner of the Maumelle – Sheridan match. The Dog Pound will have the results of Greenwood’s playoff appearance in a forthcoming article, along with the results of the last few matches of the regular season. Good luck, Lady Bulldogs!

The Greenwood High School boys soccer team has quietly concluded its 2026 season, going 0-4-2 over their final six matches against Alma, Farmington, Subiaco Academy, Siloam Springs, Russellville, and Mountain Home. Five of those matches were against 5A West conference members, the lone exception being Subiaco Academy. The Bulldogs finished their season with an overall record of 4-10-5 and a league mark of 1-9-4. The team is led by Head Coach Tyler Woods.

On Tuesday, April 21st, the Bulldogs traveled to Alma and battled hard, coming out on the short end of a 1-0 match. Three days later, on the 24th, the GHS boys hosted the Farmington Cardinals and managed to fight their way to a 1-1 tie. John Eckart scored the lone GHS goal with an assist from Skye Johnson.

The following Monday, the 27th, the Bulldogs traveled to non-conference foe Subiaco Academy, running and kicking their way to another 1-1 final score. At the end of the week, on Friday the first day of May, the Bulldogs hosted the Siloam Springs Panthers at Smith-Robinson Stadium, dropping another close match, 2-1.

On Tuesday, May 5th, the GHS boys bused their way to Russellville in Pope County to take on the Cyclones, one of the top soccer teams in the state of Arkansas, the winners of multiple state championships. Their dominance was evident in beating the Bulldogs 7-1. Then last Friday the Greenwood boys ended their season on the road at Mountain Home, losing another heartbreaker, 1-0.

The Bulldogs last reached the playoffs in 2024 out of the extremely tough 5A West Conference that boasts some of the top boys teams in the state such as Russellville, Siloam Springs, and Van Buren. But Coach Woods and his program could be on the upswing in the next couple of years after fielding a very young team in 2026 with only two seniors on the roster. Sean Jackson and Davin Cheek will graduate, but the remainder of the roster will be returning next season with much more experience under their belts, most of them returning starters. So keep fighting, Bulldogs.
