Greenwood High School’s track and field teams closed out the 2025 postseason with strong performances at both the 5A West Conference meet on April 29th at Smith-Robinson Stadium in Greenwood and the Class 5A State meet last Thursday in Van Buren. The Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs showcased depth across distance events, relays, jumps, and field events while competing against some of the top programs in the conference and state.
5A West Conference Meet
The Lady Bulldogs finished sixth overall at the 5A West Conference Meet with 59 points, highlighted by a conference championship in the 4x800-meter relay and several top-three individual finishes. Mountain Home captured the girls conference title with 183.5 points.
Greenwood’s distance runners led the way. Olivia Boren placed second in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:30.28, while teammate Piper Ames followed closely in third at 2:31.51. Blair Thompson added a 13th-place finish in 2:50.69. In the 1600-meter run, Julia Witherington finished sixth in 5:46.92, Camryn Coston was seventh in 5:51.68, and Mabrie Cash placed ninth in 5:59.27. Cash also competed in the 3200-meter run, taking seventh in 13:51.12, while Samantha Linn earned fourth place in 12:50.80.
Mazzy Van Lare contributed in multiple events, placing sixth in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 18.09 seconds, seventh in the 300-meter hurdles in 53.40 seconds, and ninth in the long jump with a mark of 14-9. Meredith Finley added an 11th-place finish in the 300 hurdles at 56.56.
In sprint events, Trinity Spicer finished 20th in the 100-meter dash in 14.41 seconds, while Sadie Gattis placed 23rd in 15.19 seconds. Sienna Wells ran 29.93 for 15th in the 200-meter dash, and Gattis added a 20th-place finish in 33.02 seconds.
Greenwood’s relay teams turned in strong performances throughout the meet. The Lady Bulldogs won the 4x800-meter relay in 10:22.08. The 4x400 relay placed fifth in 4:49.63, while the 4x100 relay finished seventh in 56.83 seconds and the 4x200 relay also took seventh in 1:57.53.
In field events, Sarah Permenter placed fourth in the shot put with a throw of 32’-0” and finished 10th in discus at 87’-5”. Kiera Johnson cleared 8-6 for sixth in the pole vault and also placed 11th in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:10.64. Ryleigh Smith added a seventh-place finish in the triple jump at 31’-9”. Maylee Bethel threw 61’-0.5” in discus for 22nd place.
The Greenwood boys finished seventh overall in the conference standings with 37 points. Mountain Home claimed the boys conference title with 160 points. Easton Carter led the Bulldogs with a runner-up finish in the high jump after clearing 6’-3”. Gavin Vonderheide placed fifth at 6’-0”, while Bronson James cleared 5’-6” for 12th place.
Braxton Canada earned third in the long jump with a leap of 22’-2”, and Tremon Hunt added an eighth-place finish at 20’-6”. Noah Myers placed 17th in the long jump at 18’-1” and 11th in the triple jump with a wind-aided mark of 37’-4”.
On the track, Andrew Rye finished seventh in the 1600-meter run in 4:44.20. Mickey Joe Thurman placed 14th in the 800-meter run in 2:21.42, Joshua Boren finished 16th in both the 800 meters (2:28.49) and 1600 meters (5:21.04), and Weston King was 19th in the 800 at 2:41.95.
In sprint events, Colton Lacy placed 11th in the 200-meter dash in 24.09 seconds. Burroughs Wolfgang ran 12.13 for 25th in the 100-meter dash and 25.01 for 21st in the 200. Max Fowler placed 26th in the 100 in 12.37 seconds, 23rd in the 200 in 25.73 seconds, and 12th in the 400-meter dash in 57.11 seconds.
Greenwood’s relay teams were competitive throughout the league meet. The Bulldogs placed fourth in both the 4x200-meter relay in 1:34.09 and the 4x400 relay in 3:39.53. The 4x100 relay took seventh in 45.21, while the 4x800 relay finished fifth in 9:14.21.
In field events, Brandon Jarrells placed 10th in the pole vault at 10’-0”. Drew Dickinson threw 37’-9” in the shot put for 15th, Braxton Moore was 18th at 32’-11.5”, Jacob Pugh placed 21st at 31’-9”, and Ethan Shumate finished 24th at 29’-11”.
5A State Meet
At the Class 5A State Meet in Van Buren on May 7, Greenwood athletes continued to compete well against the best in Arkansas. For the Lady Bulldogs, Olivia Boren placed ninth in the 800-meter run in 2:29.64, while Piper Ames finished 14th in 2:37.80. Samantha Linn earned an eighth-place finish in the 3200-meter run with a time of 12:33.23. Greenwood’s 4x800-meter relay placed ninth in 10:36.08, and Sarah Permenter finished 12th in the shot put with a throw of 31’-5.5”.
On the boys side, Easton Carter highlighted the state meet with a third-place medal in the high jump after clearing 6’-4”. Braxton Canada placed 11th in the long jump at 20’-10.5”. Greenwood’s 4x200-meter relay finished 15th in 1:34.56, while the 4x400 relay also placed 15th in 3:40.95.
From conference champions to state medalists, Greenwood’s athletes capped the 2026 spring season with determination, consistency, and strong performances across nearly every area of competition.
