GHS volleyball team wins three of four

The Greenwood Lady Bulldogs improved their overall mark to 10-5 and their conference record to 4-1 over the last two weeks, winning three of four matches against 5A West league opponents.

Their one loss came at the hands of Greenbrier on September 10th. They’ve won three matches since and played Alma this past Tuesday, though results were not available at press time.

The regular season will continue throughout the month of October for Head Coach Jennifer Golden and her players, who hope to make another deep run into the post-season with a chance to win a state title.

Greenbrier

The Lady Panthers traveled to Greenwood and did something few other teams have done in recent years, defeating the Lady Bulldogs on their home court.

The first three sets were extremely close, with the first two going into overtime. Unfortunately for the home fans, Greenbrier won both, 26-24 and 27-25. The Lady Bulldogs then won the third set, 25-21, before dropping the decisive fourth set, 25-14.

Juniors Hannah Watkins and Larkin Luke led the team in kills with 12 and 11, respectively. Junior Allison Rose (8), senior Brooke Jones (7), senior Camryn Presley (6), and junior Caylee Ciesla (5), also had kills.

Luke served up three aces in the match, while Watkins and Rose led the team in blocks with four and three, respectively. Presley had 18 digs followed by senior Izzy Davis with 16, while junior Anna Johnson had nine and junior Madison Pugh had eight. Johnson also led the team in assists with 22, while Jones had 18.

The Lady Warriors came to Greenwood on September 12th and were clobbered by the Lady Bulldogs, perhaps still upset at losing to Greenbrier two days earlier. The GHS girls won all three sets by comfortable margins of 25-10, 25-20, and 25-17.

Larkin Luke paced the Lady Bulldogs at the net with 10 kill shots, followed by Camryn Presley and Hannah Watkins with eight each while Caylee Ciesla had six kills. Watkins also had six blocks.

Izzy Davis led the squad with 13 digs from the back row while Presley and Josie Chapple had eight apiece. Anna Johnson had 19 assists followed by Presley with nine.

Siloam Springs

The Lady Panthers were given similar treatment on their home court the next week when Greenwood came to visit, winning in straight sets, 25-20, 25-9, and 25-9.

Camryn Presley led the team offensively with her strong net play, notching a dozen kill shots, but she had plenty of help. Watkins had seven kills, followed by Luke with six, Ciesla and Jones with four each, and Allison Rose with three.

Johnson and Davis led the Lady Bulldogs in service aces with four and three, respectively. Watkins had six blocks followed by Jones with four.

Davis led the team in digs with nine. Chapple and Madison Pugh had six each while Presley had five and Johnson four. Rose led in assists with 18 while Presley had 13.

Russellville

Last Thursday the GHS girls made it three conference wins in a row by blowing through the Lady Cyclones on their home court, winning with ease in consecutive sets, 25-14, 25-14, and 25-12.

No Lady Bulldog reached double digits in kills, but the team had three players notch nine kills each including Caylee Ciesla, Larkin Luke, and Camryn Presley. They also got seven kills from Brooke Jones, four from Hannah Watkins, and three from Allison rose. Presley added three service aces.
