GHS Head Coach Donald Hart and his Lady Bulldogs are headed to the postseason once again after completing their regular season schedule last week. The state tournament will be held in Paragould in Northeast Arkansas, hosted by Greene County Tech High School beginning next Thursday, May 14th. After winning the conference race in 2025, the Greenwood girls were upset in the opening round of the playoffs, losing to Maumelle, 2-0. In 2024 the GHS ladies reached the second round before losing to Valley View. Their best finish under Coach Hart was in 2023, reaching the semi-finals before falling to Benton.

The Lady Bulldogs finished the regular season with an overall record of 18-9 and 10-4 in 5A West conference play. The GHS girls finished second in league play behind first-place Farmington. Mountain Home and Siloam Springs finished third and fourth, respectively. Greenwood will open postseason play at Paragould against Marion, the #3 seed from the 5A East.

That game will be Thursday at 12:30 at GCT High School. If they beat the Lady Patriots, Greenwood would play the winner of the Benton – Lakeside game on Friday at 10 a.m. They will need to win three elimination games at Paragould to reach the state finals, to be played at Majestic Park in Hot Springs. Since we last reported on the Lady Bulldogs, they have played ten games, going 7-3 during that stretch, with a couple of non-conference games lost to bad weather.

Van Buren

On Tuesday, April 14th, the GHS girls bused across the Arkansas River to nearby Van Buren, defeating the Lady Pointers, 5-2, in conference play. A strong pitching performance by Alyssa Lovell paved the way for the victory. She went the distance, fanning four Van Buren hitters over seven innings of work, allowing three hits, a walk, and two earned runs. She allowed single runs in the second and seventh innings while her teammates scored in three innings, solo runs in the second and fourth frames, and three in the fifth.

The GHS lineup produced nine hits, led by Annie Been with three knocks, including a double. Taelyn Martin had two hits while Ava Cranor, Alyssa Lovell, Lettie Brownfield, and Daisy Parker had solo hits. Parker’s knock was an RBI double in the second inning. Lettie Brownfield had the only other Greenwood RBI.

Bentonville

But the tables were turned two days later when Greenwood traveled to Northwest Arkansas, losing to the Lady Tigers, 11-0, in non-conference play. The visitors didn’t have much to brag about in the five-inning shutout. Jordan Floyd started in the circle for Greenwood and allowed eight hits and 10 runs over 3.2 innings of work. Seven of those runs were earned. Alyssa Lovel pitched in relief, giving up three hits and three runs, all earned. The GHS defense made two errors in the contest.

At the plate, the Lady Bulldogs were absolutely silenced by Bentonville starting pitcher Daylyn Osborne, who struck out 12 of the 15 hitters she faced in throwing a perfect no-hit game over five innings. The contest ended early due to the 10-run sportsmanship rule.

Harrison

The next day, on Friday, April 17th, the GHS ladies were involved in another shutout, but this time in a good way, hosting and winning the 5A West conference game over the Lady Goblins, 15-0, in four innings. Makayla Bachert started in the circle for Greenwood and threw 56 pitches, 37 for strikes, allowing just one hit and no walks or runs for the victory.

Offensively, Greenwood batted 10 hits around the diamond, received seven walks, and took advantage of four Harrison errors. Three Lady Bulldogs had two hits each – Daisy Parker, Alyssa Lovell, and Ava Cranor. Lovell had four RBIs while Cranor had three. Other players with hits included Lakyn Dawson, Annie Been, Taelyn Martin, and Emmerson Israel. Additional RBIs were provided by Daisy Parker, Been, and Israel. Cranor, Parker, and Israel all had a stolen base.

Benton

The next day, on Saturday the 18th, Greenwood traveled to Central Arkansas to take on the defending state champion Lady Panthers. But after a promising start, scoring twice in their first at bat, the Lady Bulldogs were shut down by Benton starting pitcher Rexie Crane, who went the distance in a 9-2 victory. She fanned 10 Greenwood hitters along the way. Alyssa Lovell and Makayla Bachert toiled in the circle for the visitors, with Lovell going five innings and taking the loss. Only six of Benton’s runs were earned due to a critical GHS fielding error that led to three additional runs.

In the top of the first, Greenwood’s Emily Creason drew a leadoff walk. After a strikeout, Alyssa Lovell singled, followed by another walk to Lakyn Dawson, loading the bases. Another strikeout followed then a bases loaded walk to Emmerson Israel forced home a run. The second GHS run scored on a passed ball before Crane struck out the side. Lovell had two of Greenwood’s three hits with Ava Cranor collecting the third.

Magazine

The following Monday the Lady Bulldogs hosted the Lady Rattlers in another non-conference game, scoring multiple runs in the early frames for a 10-0 four inning victory. Greenwood scored five times in the first inning and three times in the second. Leading 8-0, two more runs in the bottom of the fourth triggered the 10-run sportsmanship rule, ending the game early. Sienna Wells and Jordyn Floyd split the pitching duties for the home team, each hurler going two innings, combining for six strikeouts.

At the dish, five doubles paced the GHS offense with Mia Street accounting for a pair of two-baggers. Lettie Brownfield, Mallory Steele, and Ryleigh Smith had the other three. Altogether, the Lady Bulldogs whacked 14 hits with five players getting multiple knocks. Abby Branson, Mia Street, and Ryleigh Smith all had three hits each while Mallory Steele and Jordyn Floyd had two hits each. Street led in RBIs with four while Smith recorded three and Floyd had two.

Alma

Returning to conference play the next Tuesday, April 21st, the Lady Bulldogs blasted the Lady Airedales in just three innings, 16-1. Trailing 1-0 after one frame, the visitors plated eight runs in both the second and third innings while GHS starting pitcher Alyssa Lovell pitched back-to-back scoreless innings for the win. Lovell gave up three hits and fanned four Alma hitters.

The top of the GHS order did a lot of damage with Emily Creason, Daisy Parker, and Alyssa Lovell each getting two hits and accounting for seven RBIs. Creason had a double and drove home four runs. Parker also doubled and drove home a run, while Lovell belted two doubles and had two RBIs. But the team leader in hits was Annie Been with three knocks, including a home run, a double, and three RBIs. Ava Cranor singled and drove home two runs. Emmerson Israel also added a double and RBI.

Farmington

Two days later the Lady Bulldogs entertained the Lady Cardinals, winning the conference clash, 5-2, behind the strong pitching effort of Jordyn Floyd, who went all seven innings. She surrendered two runs, one earned, on two hits and three walks with six strikeouts. Greenwood had just six hits in the game and received two walks. Two of their hits were extra-base knocks, including a double and a home run.

Scoreless after three frames, both teams scored once in the fourth inning, but Greenwood added another tally in the fifth to lead 2-1. After Farmington scored a second run in the top of the seventh to tie the game, Emily Creason walked it off in the bottom of the frame with a three-run homer to right field. Creason had two hits in the game with four RBIs. Daisy Parker doubled and Emmerson Israel singled, as did Ava Cranor and Mallory Steele.

Prairie Grove

On April 30th the Lady Bulldogs hosted the Lady Tigers in non-conference play, winning 7-4 behind the combined pitching efforts of starter Alyssa Lovell (5 innings) with Makayla Bachert and Jordyn Floyd pitching one frame each. Lovell’s innings were nearly spotless, allowing just two enemy hits, a walk, and no runs. Bachert and Floyd both gave up two hits and two runs.

At the plate, Greenwood belted 11 hits, two each by Emily Creason, Daisy Parker, Lakyn Dawson, Annie Been, and Miley Schwartz. Ava Cranor also added a hit. Collecting RBIs were Creason, Dawson (3), Been, and Schwartz. Been had a double while Creason and Dawson both went deep for home runs. Three of Greenwood’s runs were unearned.

Siloam Springs

The following day the Lady Bulldogs hosted the Siloam Springs’ girls and broke out the bats in a big way, winning 16-6 in four innings. Emily Creason launched a pair of homeruns and drove in five runs to pace the GHS offense while relief pitcher Jordyn Floyd clamped down on Siloam Springs’ bats over the last 4.1 innings after starter Alyssa Lovell was lifted after just 1.2 frames.

Lovell gave up seven hits and six runs in less than two innings, but only one of those runs was earned. A single GHS error led to five unearned runs, including a Lady Panthers’ grand slam with two outs in top of the second inning. Floyd closed out the inning and threw a shutout the rest of the way as the GHS bats rallied to win in blowout fashion.

Greenwood led 4-1 after one inning but trailed 6-4 before coming to bat in the bottom of the second. But three second inning runs put the Lady Bulldogs back on top, 7-6. The GHS girls also scored twice in the third, once in the fourth, twice more in the fifth, and four times in the bottom of the sixth inning to invoke the 10-run rule.

Emily Creason led her teammates with four hits, including a double, a homerun, five RBIs, and four runs scored. Only one other Lady Bulldog had multiple hits. Ava Cranor had a pair of singles and three RBIs. Daisy Parker, Jordyn Floyd, Lakyn Dawson, and Emmerson Israel had solo hits. Dawson also had a pair of RBIs. The GHS girls had 10 hits in the game.

Russellville

This past Monday Greenwood traveled to Russellville for a game originally slated for Tuesday but moved up due to a bad weather forecast. But the move didn’t agree with the Lady Bulldogs, who fell behind early and lost 6-3 on the road, their final conference loss this season. Both teams scored solo runs in the first inning and Greenwood briefly led, 2-1, before a three-run outburst by the Lady Cyclones in the bottom of the third inning. The visitors added a run in the fourth, but Russellville plated a pair of insurance tallies in the bottom of the sixth for the 6-3 victory.

Jordyn Floyd and Alyssa Lovell split the pitching duties for Greenwood, each going three innings. Floyd started in the circle for the Lady Bulldogs and allowed seven hits and four runs, but only one earned run, with three walks and a strikeout. Lovell gave up three hits, two unearned runs, with zero walks and three strikeouts. Uncharacteristically, the GHS defense made four errors that cost them the game.

Five different players had a hit for Greenwood – Emily Creason, Daisy Parker, Annie Been, Ava Cranor, and Taelyn Martin. Been’s hit was a double with Creason and Mallory Steele both getting an RBI.

Conway

This past Thursday the Greenwood girls hosted the Lady Wampus Cats of Conway, beating the Class 6A school, 8-6. A five-run outburst in the bottom of the third inning put the home team up 6-1. Solo runs in the fourth and fifth innings made it 8-2 before a late rally by Conway, scoring once in the top of the sixth and three times in the seventh before getting the tying run to the plate before the game ended.

Three GHS hurlers toiled in the non-conference game, beginning with starter Jordyn Floyd followed by Izzy Thomas and Alyssa Lovell. Floyd and Thomas both went three innings while Lovell covered the top of the seventh. Floyd allowed one run on two hits while Thomas gave up two hits and two runs, one earned. Lovell was touched up for three hits and two runs in her one inning of work.

At the plate, five Greenwood hitters accounted for seven hits. Lakyn Dawson and Annie Been led the way with two hits each. One of those hits was a double by Dawson, who also drove home a run. Emily Creason, Ava Cranor, and Taelyn Martin had solo hits with Cranor accounting for three RBIs. Three Conway errors and three walks allowed Greenwood to score five unearned runs.

Mountain Home

In the season’s last conference game this past Friday, the Lady Bulldogs made the long trek to Baxter County to take on the Lady Bombers. Jordyn Floyd started in the circle for the visitors and went three innings, leaving the game with a 6-4 lead as both teams scored several early runs. Greenwood scored twice in the first inning and three times in the top of the second for a brief 5-0 lead. But the home team got one run off Floyd in the second and three more in the third.

Leading 6-4, the GHS girls added just one more run in the sixth inning against Mountain Home’s Chloe Bohannon, who pitched all seven innings. But the Lady Bombers continued scoring against Greenwood reliever Alyssa Lovell, plating solo runs in the fourth, fifth, sixth, and seventh innings to win the game in walk-off fashion on a run-scoring bunt by Bohannon. The final score was 8-7 in favor of the home team. Lovell gave up five runs but only one was earned, making her the tough-luck loser. The Lady Bulldogs made a whopping six defensive errors in the game.

At the dish, the Greenwood girls had only six hits and scored just two earned runs. Mountain Home was also shaky on the defensive side with four errors of their own leading to five GHS unearned runs. Six different Greenwood players had solo hits, with Daisy Parker getting a double while Alyssa Lovell and Emily Creason both whacked homeruns. Besides Creason and Lovell, Parker also had an RBI. Lakyn Dawson had a hit and RBI as well. Others with RBIs include Ava Cranor and Taelyn Martin. Other teammates with hits included Annie Been and Mallory Steele. Been and Creason also had stolen bases.
