GHS wrestlers fare well at Fayetteville, Texas meets

The Greenwood High School wrestling team was in action twice over the recent holiday break. They competed in Fayetteville on December 20-21 before traveling to Allen, Texas, this past weekend.

They placed fifth overall in Fayetteville out of 25 teams from six different states, and 11th overall in Allen from among 34 teams from four states.

In the Northwest Arkansas meet, also called Battle for the Bling, the Bulldogs’ highest finishers were Colton Tuck, Ty Moose, and Tyler Crossno. All placed third in their respective weight categories.

Tuck, a senior, lost in the semi-finals in the 152-pound weight class. Moose, a junior, wrestled in the 138-pound category and reached the semis. Crossno, a sophomore, competed in the 220-pound class before ending his run in the semi-finals as well.

Other top finishers who contributed points to the overall team total included Antonio Martinez, who finished 6th at 106 pounds; Hayden Allen, who placed 8th at 113 pounds; and Garrett Haralson, who scored a quarterfinal finish in 7th place at 132 pounds.

Sam Johnson reached the quarterfinals and finished 5th at 160 pounds, while Beau Asher placed 6th in the quarterfinals at 195 pounds.

Each of the following GHS wrestlers also competed in the consolation bracket: Hayden Rofkahr, Gustavo Martinez, Gabe Belin, Jason Arnold, Garrett Newman, Charlie Nena, Jayden Martin, Kevin Douglas, and Jeremiah Presson.

At Allen last weekend the Bulldogs faced teams from Louisiana and Oklahoma, but most schools were from Texas. Greenwood was led by Crossno, who took first place in his weight category. The 220-pound champion won six matches in total and received one bye.

Ty Moose placed fourth, winning five of seven matches, while Greenwood’s Jason Arnold finished 5th in the championship round at 160 pounds, winning seven matches, including over teammate Sam Johnson, who also placed 7th in the same division, winning five matches.

The following GHS wrestlers placed in the championship round, including Hayden Allen (113-14th), Hayden Rofkahr (120-14th), Garrett Haralson (132-10th), Marko Dominguez (138-12th), Tatum Sadler (152-15th), Colton Tuck (152-10th), and Jayden martin (195-10th).

Others who competed in the consolation rounds included Antonio and Gustavo Martinez, Garrett Newman, Charlie Nena, and Kevin Douglas.
