With only one week and two conference matches remaining on the regular season schedule, the Greenwood Lady Bulldogs remain at the top of the 5A West conference standings, tied with Greenbrier. Both teams sport an 11-1 league record, having split the two matches between them.
The GHS girls are 25-8 overall after winning all four of their conference matches the past two weeks and winning three of their five tournament matches last Saturday at Ozark, Missouri.
The Lady Bulldogs will close out their regular season this week with matches against Beebe, this past Tuesday, and at Vilonia on Thursday.
The 5A state tournament will begin next Tuesday, October 29th, hosted by Lakeside High School. All matches will be played at Bank of the Ozarks Arena in Hot Springs. Whether they earn the top seed or the #2 spot, the Greenwood girls will open post-season play next Tuesday at either 1 p.m. or 7 p.m.
The Lady Bulldogs reached the state finals in 2018 and won the state title in 2017. Should they reach the finals this year, that match will be played at the same arena on Saturday, November 2nd, at 11 a.m.
LR Christian
On October 8th the Lady Bulldogs traveled to Little Rock Christian Academy to face the Lady Warriors, dropping the opening set, 25-19. But the visitors rallied to win the next three sets, 27-25, 25-17, and 25-19.
Camryn Presley (18) and Brooke Jones (12) led Greenwood in kill shots. Larkin Luke added nine kills and Hannah Watkins eight. Anna Johnson had five service aces.
Izzy Davis was busy on the back row with 20 digs to lead her teammates, followed by Madison Pugh with 19, Josie Chapple with 12, and Anna Johnson with nine digs. Presley led the team with 21 assists, while Johnson had 18.
Siloam Springs
Two days later the Lady Bulldogs had a much easier time of it, hosting the Lady Panthers and taking a three-set sweep, 25-17, 25-10, and 25-14, notching their ninth conference victory.
Once again Camryn Presley led Greenwood in kills with 14, followed by Brooke Jones with eight, Allison Rose with seven, and Larkin Luke with six. Izzy Davis, Anna Johnson, and Jocelyn Sewell each had two service aces.
Luke led the team with three blocks while Davis had nine digs followed by Johnson and Josie Chapple with seven each. Johnson also had 16 assists, followed by Presley with 10.
Russellville
Last Tuesday, October 15th, the Lady Cyclones came to Greenwood and took one on the chin, losing big in three sets, 25-16, 25-3, and 25-18. The GHS offense was led by Camryn Presley with 11 kills. Larkin Luke and Brooke Jones had seven kills each, with Allison Rose contributing six kill shots.
Presley also led the Lady Bulldogs with four service aces and Larkin Luke had eight blocks at the net. Josie Chapple led with 14 digs, followed by Izzy Davis with 12, and Presley with nine.
Anna Johnson had 19 assists, while Presley and Destiny Stallings had seven assists each.
Alma
The Lady Airedales hosted Greenwood last Thursday but didn’t like the results. The GHS girls proved to be rude visitors, taking all three sets by wide margins, 25-9, 25-14, and 25-13.
Six Lady Bulldogs had at least four kills in the match, led by Camryn Presley with 16. Larkin Luke had eight, while Caylee Ciesla, Brooke Jones, and Allison Rose had five each. Hannah Watkins added four kills.
Madison Pugh and Presley had four and three service aces, respectively, while Luke led the team with three blocks.
As usual, Izzy Davis topped the team stats with 19 digs, the only GHS player in double figures. Anna Johnson led in assists with 20, followed by Presley with eight and Davis with six.
Tournament
Last Saturday the Lady Bulldogs traveled to Ozark, Missouri, near Springfield for the Grand Slam tournament, taking on five schools from the Show Me state. Greenwood went 3-2 in the round-robin field.
In their morning opener against Nixa, Missouri, the Lady Bulldogs lost their two-set match, 25-13 and 25-20. Allison Rose (6) and Caylee Ciesla (5) led the team in kill shots.
Izzy Davis had nine digs with Madison Pugh had six. Camryn Presley had nine assists while Anna Johnson had five.
In uncommon fashion, the GHS girls also lost their next match to Lafayette High School from Wildwood, Missouri, falling in two sets, 25-18 and 25-23. Camryn Presley led Greenwood with six kills.
Madison Pugh and Josie Chapple tied for the team lead with six digs, while Anna Johnson had seven assists.
Perhaps motivated by Head Coach Jennifer Golden after two losses, the Lady Bulldogs turned things around in their match against Eldon, Missouri. The GHS girls won 25-16 and 25-12.
Camryn Presley led the team with five kills while Caylee Ciesla had three. Larkin Luke and Hannah Watkins had two blocks each. Izzy Davis led her teammates with eight digs and five assists.
Greenwood’s first match Saturday afternoon was against Carl Junction, Missouri. The Lady Bulldogs easily won in straight sets, 25-10 and 25-16.
Presley led the team with six kills, with Watkins right behind with five kills and Allison Rose with four.
Anna Johnson had five digs. Josie Chapple had four and Jocelyn Sewell had three. Johnson also led with nine assists.
The GHS girls then closed out the tournament against the Ozark girls, winning a tight match, 25-23 and 26-24, led offensively by Camryn Presley with nine kills, while Brooke Jones and Caylee Ciesla had six each.
Madison Pugh and Anna Johnson had two aces each, while Johnson led the team in assists with 15, followed by Presley with 11. Izzy Davis had a dozen digs.
