GHS soccer teams return to action

The Greenwood High School girls and boys soccer teams took some time off from competition last week for spring break, but returned to action this past Tuesday at Siloam Springs. Results were not available at press time.

Bulldogs

The GHS boys are currently 3-5 on the season and 1-2 in 5A West conference play. The Bulldogs lost to league foes Little Rock Christian and Russellville, but defeated Vilonia on March 15th by a lopsided score of 7-1. Earlier that week the ‘Dogs lost a heartbreaker to Russellville in an overtime shootout.

Against Vilonia the GHS junior varsity team won 2-0 with both goals scored by Devin Stuart. Ricardo Sanabria and Jackson Stewart led the varsity squad with two goals each.

Grant Ennis, Travis Johns, and Landon Henning also scored one goal each in the win. The team is led by new head coach Tyler Woods.

Lady Bulldogs

The GHS varsity girls are 5-3-1 overall and 1-2 in conference play for Head Coach Andrew Post. Just like their male counterparts, the Lady ‘Dogs lost to Little Rock Christian and Russellville before defeating Vilonia, 4-1, before the start of spring break.

Against Vilonia Greenwood scored two goals in each half. Foreign exchange student Paula Burillo accounted for two goals, while Bella Mora knocked in the other two. Both players are juniors.

The Greenwood ladies own victories over Little Rock Parkview, Maumelle, Fort Smith Northside, Springdale Har-Ber, and Vilonia. On Friday both GHS squads will host Beebe at Smith-Robinson Stadium.
