GHS soccer teams play at LR Christian

The two Greenwood High School soccer teams had just begun their 2020 conference season when the Arkansas Activities Association (AAA) suspended all high school sporting activities until at least April 17th.

That was later followed by an order from Governor Hutchinson and the state education department to cancel on-campus classes for the remainer of the current school year due to the coronavirus outbreak.

The Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs traveled to Central Arkansas on Tuesday, March 10th, to take on Little Rock Christian in 5A West conference play. They seasons were interrupted two days later by the AAA.

In the opener the GHS girls played well defensively, allowing just two goals, but couldn’t score themselves, losing 2-0 to the Lady Warriors.

In boys’ action, the Bulldogs and Warriors each scored a goal in the first 40 minutes and both teams were scoreless in the second half and were tied at 1-1 at the end of 80 minutes.

But Little Rock Christian won the resulting shootout, 4-2, in overtime to take the match.

The Lady Bulldogs are led by head coach Andrews Post while the GHS boys are under the direction of Tyler Woods. For the sake of their players, both men hope the current suspension of play will end after April 17th and some part of their remaining seasons can be salvaged.
