The Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs bowling teams are about to wrap up their regular season campaigns before taking part in the 6A conference tournament early next month. One more regular season meet remains this Thursday against Alma at Bowling World in Fort Smith.

The league tournament will be held in Conway on February 8th. The 6A state tournament will be held in Springdale on February 14th.

The GHS girls opened the season with a nice winning streak, remaining unbeaten until last Thursday's narrow three-pin loss to Fort Smith Southside. They had beaten the Lady Mavericks in December.

"The girls have been really consistent this year," said Head Coach Trey Holloway. "They are led by [sophomore] Madison Zollicoffer, [senior] Sydney Parker, and Madison Lawler. They've done a great job getting leads in the first game of the match and putting pressure on the other teams."

But the winning streak ended last week against Southside, followed by another narrow loss this past Tuesday at Bowling World against Van Buren. The Lady Bulldogs were paced by the trio of Zollicoffer (166, 198), Parker (189, 166), and Lawler (139, 117).

"The boys have bowled well and have competed well," said Coach Holloway. "We have a few seniors that have led us this year, and a few freshman that will be great in a couple years."

The Bulldogs last won against Hackett on January 5th, then lost to Fort Smith Northside on the 11th before falling to Southside last Thursday by 274 pins. They also lost to Van Buren on Tuesday.

Top scorers for Greenwood included senior Talon Welch (114, 212), freshman Ry Burlington (162, 155), senior Dakota Turner (163, 149), and junior Wade Weaver ( 151, 143).

"We play Alma on Thursday for our last match before the conference tournament," said Holloway, "and [we] really need to finish strong with both teams having back-to-back losses."
