GHS track season opens at Quad City met

Greenwood was among five area teams that competed in the Quad City track and field meet held in Van Buren on March 6th. Also there were the two Fort Smith schools, Northside and Southside, along with Alma and Van Buren.

The GHS girls and boys both placed fourth overall in the competition. The Bulldogs tallied 45 points, while the Lady Bulldogs earned 44 points.

Fort Smith Southside won the boys competition going away with 108.5 points. Likewise, Van Buren won the girls competition with 106 points.

Lady Bulldogs

For the GHS girls, Annalee Busso had the best finish, earning first place points in the pole vault, clearing the bar at nine feet even. Abby Cagle earned second place points in the discus throw (69’6”). She also placed sixth (28’8.75”) in the triple jump.

In the running events, Macie Cash placed second in both the 800-meter (2:47.04) and 1600-meter (5:44.50) runs. Taylor Koeth placed third in the 1600-meter event (5:55.45) and second (13:08.05) in the 3200-meter run.

Destiny Stallings placed third (18.81) in the 100-meter hurdles, and the 4x100 meter relay team also placed third (59.35).

Bulldogs

The GHS boys scored a similar number of points as the girls, earning first place points in three events.

Nathaniel Gonzales placed first twice, earning top points in the 1600-meter run (4:57.36) and the 3200-meter run (10:49.54).

The other first place finish was in the pole vault by Christian Schaefer, clearing the bar at 12 feet even.

Max Vickery placed second (24.10) in the 200-meter dash, and Nick Lewis placed second (11:34.57) in the 3200-meter run. He also placed sixth (5:15.06) in the 1600-meter run.

Ryan Farr scored fifth place points in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:21.94. Dawson James also placed in the 400-meter dash, earning sixth place points (59:31).

Two GHS boys relay teams also placed, both third, in the 4x400 meter relay (4:09.39) and the 4x800 meter relay (9:13.70).

Bulldog Relays

The biggest meet of the regular season for Greenwood will be held on Thursday this week at Smith-Robinson Stadium. The Bulldog Relays will commence at 3:30 p.m. A host of area schools from Arkansas and Oklahoma are slated to participate.
