Bulldogs maul Panthers in conference opening doubleheader

By Richard White

Conference play came early this year for the GHS baseball team, as the Bulldogs traveled to Siloam Springs last Monday and mauled the Panthers in a doubleheader sweep, 16-0 and 10-0. Not only did the two teams meet for the only time this season, but they met for the last time as members of the 5A West, since both schools are moving up in classification next season. Following the twin victories, the Bulldogs headed southwest to Texas to participate in the Grand Prairie tournament starting Thursday. Click Here For More

Lady Bulldogs win second state title in three years
By Richard White

The Greenwood High School Lady Bulldogs won their second Class 5A state basketball title in three years this past Thursday night. The championship game was played at Summit Arena in Hot Springs, and despite the rainy conditions outside, a nice crowd of GHS students, parents, and other fans made the trip to Garland County to support head coach Clay Reeves and his players. The opponents were the Lady Rams of Paragould, a team that mirrored Greenwood in several ways. Both teams entered the game with 26-4 records; both were 17-0 since Christmas; both went undefeated while winning their respective conference races; both Click Here For More

Lady Bulldogs drop two games in softball
By Richard White

The Greenwood Lady Bulldogs softball team dropped both of its recent games against a pair of higher classification schools, Fayetteville and Van Buren. Van Buren at Greenwood
By: Richard White

Returning from their successful trip to Texas, the Bulldogs hosted the Van Buren Pointers last Monday, March 12th, and continued their strong play with a 5-0 victory. For the Pointers, it was death by a thousand cuts, with the Bulldogs scoring single runs in the first, third, fourth, fifth, and sixth innings. Both teams had six hits apiece, but sloppy fielding (six errors) plus seven walks issued by three Pointers’ pitchers were too much for the visitors to overcome. Click Here For More

Grand Prairie Classic
By: Richard White

The competition was much tougher in Texas, or at least the scores were much closer, than what the Bulldogs have encountered so far this season in Arkansas, and yet they still managed to win three games in three days in tournament play in Grand Prairie, a town located between Dallas and Fort Worth. After an easy 9-1 victory in the Thursday opener, the Bulldogs won their final two games on Friday and Saturday by scores of 7-6 and 4-3. Click Here For More

Rogers at Greenwood
By: Richard White

In their final action prior to spring break, the Greenwood Bulldogs hosted Class 7A Rogers in non-conference play last Friday, March 16th. With solid pitching and perfect defense leading the way, the 'Dogs stranded eight Rogers' baserunners and earned a 3-0 shutout behind starting and winning pitcher Austin Suter. After giving up just one hit in five innings and throwing 95 pitches, Suter was relieved by another senior, Justin Sunde, who also surrendered just one safety and earned the save.

Diamond ‘Dogs drop two of three in Oklahoma

By Richard White

It took nearly a month, and they had to leave the state of Arkansas to do it, but the Greenwood Bulldogs finally lost a baseball game this season. In fact, they’ve lost two games in succession for the first time in recent memory, dropping two of three games in tournament play at Edmond, Oklahoma, last weekend. But in all fairness, they lost both games by a combined deficit of just three runs. With spring break now over, the Bulldogs will return to their regular season schedule this week. Bulldogs down Poteau, improve to 10-2 on the season
By Richard White

The Greenwood Bulldogs continued their season-long pattern of aggressive pitching last Tuesday with a home victory over Poteau, OK. Greenwood starting pitcher Chris Hunt tossed a six-hitter in the 'Dogs 6-2 win against the Pirates on March 27th. The 'Dogs took advantage of Poteau's lackadaisical defense, scoring four runs as a result of a handful of Pirates' errors. Bulldogs Knock Off Another 7A Team
By Richard White

The Bulldogs drew four walks and took advantage of an error to score six times in the fifth inning against Northside on Monday, April 15th. The scoring outburst helped propel the Bulldogs to an 8-2 non-conference win over the Class 7A Grizzlies. Northside led 2-0 going into the home half of the fifth, but three consecutive walks loaded the bases and forced a pitching change. Greenwood’s Hayden Harvey then tied the game with a two-run single to center, and the Bulldogs took a 3-2 lead after a balk was called on the new Northside pitcher. The ‘Dogs added another run on an error to cap the six-run inning, then two more runs in the sixth for good measure. Click Here For More
