Bulldogs practicing on Thanksgiving again after rout over Wynne Yellowjackets, 42-7

By Richard White

It's become a tradition at Greenwood during the Rick Jones era for the Bulldogs to hold a brief practice on Thanksgiving morning - a tradition that remains alive and well in 2011 after Greenwood's 42-7 rout of the Wynne Yellowjackets last Friday night at Smith-Robinson Stadium. The lopsided quarterfinal victory means that the Bulldogs are one of four teams remaining in the sweepstakes for the Class 5A state title.... Click Here For More

Bulldogs win post-season opener; await Wynne Yellowjackets

By Richard White

If someone dissected the 2011 football season for the Greenwood Bulldogs, it would divide neatly into three parts. First, the Bulldogs went 3-0 in non-conference play. Then they went 7-0 in 5A West Conference play, completing an undefeated regular season at 10-0. And finally, last Friday night, they won their first round playoff game at home against the Mustangs of Central Arkansas Christian in convincing fashion, 42-7. Click Here For More

Bulldogs complete perfect regular season with classic victory at Alma

By Richard White

For the first time since 1972, the Greenwood Bulldogs have completed a perfect 10-0 regular season. The tenth win came last Friday night in nail biting fashion at Alma. After a lackluster first half performance left them trailing at the break for the first time this season, the Bulldogs rallied in the second half behind the strong and accurate leg of senior kicker Adam McFain, to pull out a thrilling 23-20 victory. McFain was good on three of four field goal Click Here For More

Jr. Bulldogs end season with sweet victory over Alma

By Richard White

While the 2011 season didn't live up to its full potential, the Greenwood Junior High Bulldogs did close out the season in strong fashion with consecutive victories over two area rivals, Shiloh Christian and Alma. Last Thursday's 21-6 win over the Jr. Airedales was especially sweet, because it avenged Greenwood's loss at Alma in the season opener. In the first game the Jr. 'Dogs made too many mistakes and Alma was able to Click Here For More

Offense abounds in 5A West shootout; Dogs prevail, 59-35

By Richard White

Arguably the premier high school football game in the state last Friday, the Greenwood Bulldogs and Greenbrier Panthers did not disappoint, combining for over 1000 yards of total offense and 94 points between them. Both teams were unbeaten at 8-0 when the contest started, but 150 minutes later the visiting Bulldogs walked away with a hard-fought but convincing 59-35 victory, putting them in the driver's seat to win their fourth

The Greenwood Bulldogs have done everything required of them so far this season. Last Friday's 45-15 victory over the visiting Vilonia Eagles is just the latest in a series of lopsided wins over nearly all of Greenwood's 2011 opponents. The Bulldogs are now 8-0 overall and 5-0 in 5A West Conference play heading into the home stretch of the regular season, although both of Greenwood's remaining games are on the road at Greenbrier and Alma. By Richard White

After rolling to four straight blowout victories to open the season, the Greenwood Bulldogs were finally tested last Friday night at Morrilton in 5A West Conference play. The 41-17 final score was not indicative of the nature of the game, as Greenwood scored twice in the final 5:10 to secure the victory. The Bulldogs led 20-10 at the half, and neither team scored in a defense-dominated third quarter. It was revenge time for the Greenwood Bulldogs last Friday night, hosting the Panthers of Siloam Springs in the 5A West Conference opener at Smith-Robinson Stadium. The Panthers were the only league team to defeat Greenwood last season as the Bulldogs made their way to another state championship. So payback was on the minds of those Bulldogs who returned from 2010, and when the final horn sounded their goal was accomplished with a 42-6 victory. The 'Dogs are now 4-0. Click Here For More
