The match up fans have been looking forward to for 10 weeks will happen with Alma this week and it will be for the AAAA-West Championship as both teams are undefeated in AAAA-West Action.
The Airedales downed Vilonia 35-14 Friday night, while the Bulldogs had a tougher challenge in the Siloam Springs Panthers.
For the seventh time in nine games the Bulldogs found themselves behind early in the first quarter after Siloam Springs scored a touchdown with 8:52 to go in the first quarter.
Greenwood moved the ball down the field on Siloam Springs on their first possession and looked ready to score, but a forced pass by Daniel Stegall turned into an interception in the end zone for Siloam Springs.
The Greenwood defense stood solid after adjustments after the first Siloam drive and held the Panthers.
Tonight, however, would be the William Ridener show. Ridener tied the game at 7-7 on a 5-yard run with :47 left in the first quarter after Mason Knox PAT was good.
Siloam Springs took a 13-7 lead midway through the second quarter after picking up a fumbled punt after the snap sailed well over Stegall's head. The PAT though went just wide.
Daniel Stegall went in from 2-yards out with 4:41 to go before the half to give the Bulldogs a 14-13 lead.
Jared Morris turned and caught an unbelievable 50-pass from Stegall with 1:44 to go before the half to extend the lead to 21-13 at the break.
Siloam would battle back in the second half though pulling to within 2 points 28-26 with 6:04 to go in the game.
The Bulldogs though was able to hang on and grind out the rest of the clock to secure the win and the conference showdown with Alma.
Behind one of if not the best offensive line in AAAA Barry Beams, Zach Heller, Zach Houston, Nathan Cox, David Goines, and Clinton Shown, William Ridener had his best game of season rushing for 231-yards on 28 carries.
"He went out there and ran like a champ," said Jones. "He just keeps getting better and that's what you're so proud of."
Daniel Stegall rushed for 142-yards on 25 carries.
Stegall was 9 of 19 with 1 interception passing for 95-yards.
Jared Morris led the receivers with 2 catches for 59-yards.
Greenwood had 413 yards of total offense with 318 on the ground and 95 in the air.
Siloam Springs was held to 248 total yards with 172 on the ground and 76 in the air.
William Ridener and Daniel Stegall both broke the 1,000 yard rushing at Siloam Springs.
Ridener has 1,043 yards for the season and Stegall 1,003.
With Siloam Springs over with the Bulldogs can focus on Alma and this game is looking to be the biggest ever.
Greenwood school officials are bringing in extra bleachers for the game and the gates will open at 5:00 PM.
"You hope when you start out the season that you can get to that point," said Coach Jones about playing Alma for the conference championship. "I dunno how Alma feels about it, but we feel tired right now. That was a hard fought win. They're obviously a great football team, but something tells me that these old Bulldogs will be ready."
