Greenwood improved to 5-1 on the year and 3-0 in conference play with the 31-14 win over their second biggest conference rival Harrison on the banks of Crooked Creek Friday night.
No trip to Crooked Creek would be right without some controversy and Friday night would prove to be no different as Bulldog head coach Rick Jones, took a time out midway through the second corner to discuss the call with officials after a late flag was thrown after Greenwood's Daniel Stegall had went into the end zone on 3rd down from the 3-yard line. The call was Greenwood not having enough men on the line of scrimmage.
The Bulldogs had to settle on a field goal on 4th down as Mason Knox added the three points with 6:35 to go before the half to give the Bulldogs a 13-7 lead.
Kyle Walters set the Bulldogs up on the 5-yard line after blocking a Harrison punt.
Harrison was first to find the end zone after a 78-yard 14 play opening drive that took over 7 minutes of the first quarter. Harrison's quarterback John Viehamn hit Blake Rhein on a 2-yard pass into the end zone.
The Bulldog offense would answer quickly with 2:46 left in the first quarter as Greenwood's Mason Knox put the ball right through the uprights for a 25-yard field goal. It would be Knox's first of three field goals for the night, who was also perfect kicking PAT's for the night.
Daniel Stegall found Cody Long in the end zone with 22 ticks left on the clock before half time to give the Bulldogs a 21-7 lead.
Harrison would come out of the locker room rested and put together a second scoring drive on their opening possession of the second half with John Viehamn going in from 2-yards out.
This cut the Bulldog lead to 21-14, but it would be the final score for the Goblins as the Bulldog defense held their ground.
Up by only 7 the Bulldogs knew they needed to score again to get to the crucial 13 points to carry over in the conference race.
Knox would add his third field goal with 4:51 left in the game on 24-yard kick.
Stegall would see the light of day with 3:29 left to play and went 51-yards for a Bulldog touchdown to bring us to the final score of 31-14.
The Bulldog offense once again had over 400 yards of offense with 401 total yards. 202 through the air and 199 on the ground.
It was the Stegall and Ridener show on the ground as Stegall had 14 carries for 105-yards and Ridener had 13 carries for 99-yards.
Nathan Staton returned to the line up off the injury list and had a spectacular game, with 3 catches for 61 yards, with the longest catch for 50-yards.
Cody Long also put in a stellar performance with 3 catches for 60 yards, with his longest catch for 38-yards and the one touchdown reception.
The Bulldog defense would put together one of their best games of the season so far and it did not go unnoticed by head coach Rick Jones. "It was a great road win," said Jones. "We should've scored more, but I was really proud of our defense. I thought after the first drive they came out and played their guts out. They came out and played with enthusiasm, they played tough."
After back to back road games the Bulldogs finally return home to Smith-Robinson Stadium this Friday night to face the speedy    Devil Dogs.
Alma survived a trip to Devil Dogs stadium last Friday night 14-7.
The Devil Dogs will be out for a big game this week to remain in the conference title hunt as the Bulldogs will look to crush those hopes see Gold on the horizon themselves and a win over Morrilton will be huge for the Bulldogs.
Kickoff is at 7:30 and a standing room crowd is expected so get their early Bulldog fans. It will also be mass band night as the Greenwood High School and Junior High Bands will preform together during the pregame activities.
