Bulldog's #8 In First Preseason Poll

7-16-04 By: Brian Vaughn
The Greenwood Bulldogs who went 8-3 last season and finished #9 in the final Hooten's Arkansas Football poll will start the 2004 season ranked #8 in their poll in AAAA.
This year's edition of Hooten's Arkansas Football, put out by the Hooten brothers Chad and Chris, hit newsstands across the state just over a week ago.
This years magazine is 432 pages including every high school in the state of Arkansas, the Razorback's and all the other state colleges football programs.
In the Hooten's preseason AAAA poll the AAAA-West is represented well taking half of the top ten spots.
Vilonia which rejoins the AAAA-West conference and is Greenwood's opening conference game on the road, starts the season off ranked #1 after their state runner-up finish last season.
Harrison starts the season off at #4, Alma #6, Greenwood #8 and Morrilton #10 from the AAAA-West.
The AAAA-West conference coaches see things a little different than the Hooten's brothers do as they have the Alma Airedales #1 in the conference followed by Harrison, Vilonia, Morrilton and Greenwood.
The AAAA-West conference looks to be by far the toughest AAAA conference this upcoming season with a lot of good statewide teams playing for just four playoff spots.
With all the talented AAAA-West teams this fall, there will be several good teams left at home come playoff time.
There's some questions that will have to be answered as the season gets underway also for the teams of the AAAA-West.
How will Coach Stanley and Vilonia with QB Nick Cowger handle the transition to the West conference?
Who will replace all-state fullback Justin McCutcheon for the Harrison Goblins?
Could this be the breakout year for the always talented Morrilton Devil Dogs under second year head coach Chris Hill?
Will this be the season Alma makes another state title run behind junior QB Joseph Medeiros, or Will Greenwood behind the duo combination of QB's senior Micah Fritsche and junior Daniel Stegall under first year head coach Rick Jones shock the AAAA?
AAAA-West football fans it won't be long now before all these questions and all the excitement that is high school football will play itself out as the Greenwood Bulldogs will start fall practice on August 2 and will put the pads on August 5.
