Morrilton-  He's been playing quietly just off the radar screen probably to must, except for those opponents he's been laying some hard hits on each week.
Bryson Fair however, stepped completely into the spot light in Morrilton as he got Greenwood two defensive scores in the 37-20 win.
"Bryson flew all over the field tonight," said Bulldog head coach Rick Jones. "He had two big plays."
After Morrilton (1-6, 0-4) took an early lead late in the first quarter on a 1-yard run by Lance Clinkscale, Greenwood found the end zone for the first time with 5:45 to go in the second quarter on a 6-yard run by Daniel Stegall that had been set up by good field position as the Bulldog defense and special teams did their part keeping Morrilton pinned inside their own 10.
On fourth down from their own 6-yard line, Morrilton's snap to the punter standing just inside the goal line went wide leaving the punter scrambling for the ball with the Bulldog defense quickly swarming to the ball.
Morrilton's punter John Camberlen finally got lose from what the Bulldog faithful believed would be a sure safety to get the punt off, but Greenwood's Jeff Strunk go a hand on the punt sending it straight up and a Morrilton player came up with the ball finally, he however was quickly tackled to give Greenwood the ball on the Morrilton 6.
Then enter Bryson Fair...Fair with 2:40 left before the half picked off Morrilton quarterback Kyle Russell's pass and returned it 32-yards untouched for a touchdown to give the Bulldogs their first lead of the night 14-7, after Mason Knox's PAT was good.
Greenwood and Morrilton would trade touchdowns early in the third quarter with Greenwood's Daniel Stegall scoring on a 6-yard run with 10:34 to go and Morrilton's Kyle Russell threw a 21-yard pass complete at the 6:27 mark.
Then enter Bryson Fair...Fair again stepped up for the Bulldogs with 3:21 in the third quarter with he sacked Morrilton's Russell in the end zone for a safety to put the Bulldogs up 23-14.
Greenwood then kicked it in gear on offense scoring on a six play drive as Daniel Stegall went in from the 3 to give Bulldogs a 30-14 lead with just over a minute in the third quarter.
Morrilton would continue to fight though cutting the lead to just 10 on a 1-yard run by Russell with 6:47 to go in the game.
Daniel Stegall who finished the game with 168-yards rushing and going 12 of 19 passing for 86yards found the end zone for the fourth time of the night on a 39-yard touchdown run to put the Bulldogs up 37-20, and their 13 important conference points.
"We beat a good football team," said Greenwood's Rick Jones. "I don't think people realize just how good of a football team they are."
"People who just look at records don't believe it, but this was a tough game and I'm very happy with the win. It was a good win over a quality team."
Eric Melton rushed 7 times for 55-yards for the Bulldogs.
Jacob Mills and Lucas Miller lead in receiving with Miller with 37-yards and Mills with 26-yards.
Greenwood 6-1 overall and 4-0 in conference play will travel up to Huntsville this Friday.
A three way race remains in the AAAA-West between Greenwood, Alma and Siloam Springs.
Alma downed Harrison at Crooked Creek last Friday 35-7 and the Panthers at Siloam Springs under first year head coach Billy Dawson moved to 7-0 for the year on a touchdown as time expired to beat Vilonia 23-22.
Alma travels to Siloam Springs on Friday as the race for the conference championship starts to take shape.
