“This group can say they worked harder than any group in the state of Arkansas,” said Bulldog head coach Rick Jones following the last day of his six week strength and speed camp.
“The kids did great,” Jones said. “We had attendance that improved as the summer went along from the older kids on down to the 4th graders. The kids really did well, I couldn't be more pleased.”
Last Thursday the varsity Bulldogs finished a goal that Coach Jones had set for them last April and that was to do 56 sprints.
“I think they surprised themselves,” said Jones. “We can do a lot more than our brain sometimes allows us to do, that's why we set goals to run 56 sprints. That's something to build toward, something to look forward too.”
The Bulldogs will have the rest of the week off, and then are to report back on Monday at 8:00 to start the fall football practices.
The first week of fall practices will be used by the coaching staff to install the offense and defense that the Bulldogs will operate this fall.
“We will have long practices this week, but they'll be more of a teaching type practice,” said Jones.
The Bulldog defense was informed at the end of their summer workout that defensive coordinator Brian Early, who joined the Greenwood coaching staff in the spring, has left the program to join the coaching staff at the University of Central Arkansas in Conway.
Coach Jones wishes Coach Early luck and will begin immediately looking for a coach to add to the program. Vince Parrin will take over the defense for this fall.
