The Bulldogs had a long day on Saturday starting with Media Day with group and individual pictures at 8 AM.
Following that Coach Jones put them through a two hour regular practice, which ended about 12:30.
They would again hit the practice field at 7:00 for a scrimmage for parents and fans.
The scrimmage had to be moved to the GHS practice field due to work on the field at Smith-Robinson Stadium.
The cooler than normal summer may have been a blessing for everyone, but has played havoc on the grass on the stadium field and have left large areas with no grass.
School officials are doing everything they can to get the field playable by the September 3rd opener against Shiloh Christian including getting outside advice from professional grounds keepers at Hardscrabble and the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville.
At the evening scrimmage the Bulldogs went through a number of present plays on both offense, defense and in the kicking game for the fans in attendance.
Coach Jones came out of it glad he still has three weeks of practice before the first game.
As the Bulldogs didn't appear to Coach Jones to be as far along has he thought they would be, especially on the offensive side of the ball.
"Protection was really a problem," said Jones. "That was the thing most disappointing with our first group. I didn't expect that, I thought we'd protect good enough to catch it and chunk it. We've got work to do there obviously."
Jones came away feeling up beat about the Bulldog defense though after the scrimmage.
"Defense I thought played well," Jones said. "Played fast, we have to play fast. We're not playing at the intensity level that I think we need to play, but that will come in time."
The Bulldogs will continue their afternoon practices this week.
Bulldog Kick Off 2004 will be held at Smith-Robinson Stadium, Friday at 6:00 PM. All GHS football players, volleyball, tennis and golf players will be introduced along with performances by the Greenwood spirit squads and the Greenwood High School Marching Band.
Following Kick Off, everyone is invited to tour the recently completed indoor mult-purpose building, or as the Bulldogs call it, the "G-Mac".
