University of Arkansas at Fort Smith (UAFS) women’s basketball head coach Elena Lovato has announced the signing of former Greenwood High School star Lundon Williams to an NCAA Division II letter-of-intent.
The announcement was made last week through the office of the UAFS sports information director, Jonathan Gipson, also a Greenwood alum. Greenwood Athletic Director Dustin Smith also came from UAFS.
Williams, a 5’-6” guard, played two seasons at Harding University in Searcy before transferring to UAFS as student last year. She will have two seasons of eligibility remaining with the Lady Lions.
“We are beyond blessed to have Lundon join the Lady Lions family,” said Coach Lovato. “She is what I consider a local, being from Greenwood, so she is bringing an entire community fan base with her that we are excited about.”
During her high school career, Williams was no stranger to post-season awards. She is a four-time All-State selection and four-time All-State Tournament Team selection. She was twice named First Team All-Arkansas Preps and was the 2011 Arkansas Democrat-Gazette Newcomer of the Year and the 2012 Arkansas Democrat-Gazette Sophomore of the Year.
Williams led Greenwood to the Class 5A state championship as a sophomore and the 6A state title as a senior. She is the daughter of Greenwood junior high girls basketball head coach Ronnie Williams.
