GHS sports camps just around the corner

By Richard White

With the conclusion of the school year in sight and the end of the spring sports season even closer, the GHS athletic department and its coaches have released a list of several late spring and early summer sports camps ending with the annual FASDOGS program in July.

Basic information about the camps is posted on the Greenwood Dog Pound Facebook page. Registration forms for each camp can be found on the school district website under "Athletics" and "Summer Camps".

Interested parties may also contact the athletic department of the Greenwood School District. The district's central office is located at 420 North Main Street and the phone number is 996-4142. Ann Caudle is the athletic department secretary.

There will be a camp for boys basketball (May 31 - June 1) for students entering the third though the seventh grades. A girls basketball camp will be held June 22-23 for students entering grades two through seven.

Also on May 31st there will be a volleyball camp for girls entering kindergarten through second grade. On June 1-2 there will be a camp for older girls entering grades three through six.

There will be a softball camp for girls ages 9-13 on May 31st as well, followed by another camp for ages 6-8 the following day, June 1st.

On June 5, 6, and 7 there will be a wrestling camp for students entering kindergarten through the eighth grade, and on June 13-14 there will be a baseball camp for ages 14 and under.

The FASDOGS program will commence on July 10th and run four days each week for three weeks, ending on July 27th. The purpose of FASDOGS is to improve the speed and agility of all athletes regardless of their chosen sport. Adults are also encouraged to take part, and all participants are required to provide proof of a physical exam at the time of registration.

Late additions to the list of summer offerings includes a junior high run camp June 14-16 and a high school run camp July 23-26. Details about these camps will be forthcoming.

The cost of each camp varies depending on the sport, and all campers will be grouped according to age to maximize instruction. GHS coaches will conduct the camps, assisted by current members of the Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs sports teams.
