Bulldogs Win Mountain Home Tournament

The baseball Bulldogs had a successful road trip to Mountain Home last weekend to say the least. Greenwood took home the first place trophy at the one day tournament winning three straight games.

Greenwood's first opponent, Jonesboro, who the Bulldogs defeated 3-1 in a tournament earlier in the year gave in to Greenwood without much of a fight. The Bulldogs only managed three hits in the first inning but the Jonesboro team was their own worst enemy issuing several walks and hitting a couple of Greenwood batters to give the Bulldogs a 10-0 lead going into the second inning.

And with Greenwood Ace Tyler Wilson on the mound that would be more than enough to get the first win of the tourney.



"Tyler did not have his best game," Said Head Coach Randy Gardener. "But even when he is not good, he is better than everyone else." Wilson allowed one run in five innings of work to give Greenwood the mercy rule victory 16-1.

Mackenzie Been took the mound for Greenwood for the second game and fell behind early to Conway.

Things looked bleak for the dogs after three innings they still did not have a run, but in the top of the fourth Greenwood found a way to reach base with Hunter Staton walking, Stegall reaching on a fielding error and Tyler Wilson getting hit by a pitch to load the bases.

Kyle Pippin came to the plate, reached on an error and Staton and Stegall scored on the error as well; Wilson would then cross the plate on a passed ball.

Conway's sloppy play continued throughout the game to give Greenwood a 9-5 victory on just three hits.

In the championship game coach Gardener faced off with his former team, Parkview. Hunter Staton took the mound for the Bulldogs. Both teams remained scoreless for the first three innings. In the top of the fourth Parkview scored three runs on a hit and a couple of fielding errors.

The Bulldogs scored all of their runs in the bottom of the fourth, but it would be enough. Greenwood went on a six run tear beginning with a walk issued to Brandon Brewer, Been then singled and Brewer scored on a throwing error by Parkview. Staton reached on a field error, Stegall walked and Wilson hit a double into the gap pick up two RBI's. Stegall scored on a wild pitch and Wilson was driven in by Pippin.

Parkview would score once more but it was not enough as the dogs brough home the trophy
