     It was only a benefit game for the Arkansas Activities Association (AAA), but new head coach Brian Martin hopes that last week's 48-37 victory over visiting Mena is a harbinger of things to come for his Bulldogs. GHS girls getting ready for run at conference title

     On Tuesday, November 24th, the Greenwood Lady Bulldogs traveled to Fort Smith Southside for the official opening of the 2009-2010 season against the Class 7A Lady Rebels. But regardless of how that game turns out, the GHS girls are preparing themselves for a run at the 5A West Conference title, hoping to win their first league crown for head coach Clay Reeves and assistant coach Ronnie Williams.

The annual H. B. Stewart Classic basketball tournament got underway Thursday afternoon on the GHS campus in the arena named for the former GHS coach and athletic director. Besides the two squads from Greenwood, teams from Farmington, Ozark, and Poteau, OK are participating in the three-day event. There are four games slated for each day of the tournament with Greenwood teams playing in the last two games each evening starting at 7:00 and 8:30 p.m.

The annual H. B. Stewart Classic basketball tournament concluded Saturday night with the local legend himself seated at courtside in the arena named for him. Former Greenwood coach and athletic director H. B. Stewart was in attendance for all three days of the event and stayed late on Saturday to present team and individual trophies. One of those team trophies went to the host Lady Bulldogs for winning the girls division with a perfect 3-0 record. They are 6-2 overall. Click Here For More

The Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs concluded their 2009-2010 regular season last Friday night with a pair of conference victories over visiting Central Arkansas Christian (CAC). The GHS girls will now move on to the Class 5A state tournament to be held in Alma this coming week.      The Greenwood High School Lady Bulldogs have defied the odds and reached the Class 5A state championship game, scheduled for next Saturday in Summit Arena at the Hot Springs Convention Center. The GHS girls earned the right to compete for the state title by their performance in the first three rounds of state tournament play at Alma High School last week, defeating Monticello, Camden Fairview, and Nettleton on successive days. At the start it's impossible to know what a season may bring, as the Greenwood Lady Bulldogs found out Saturday night at Summit Arena in Hot Springs. Trailing throughout the second half, the GHS girls rebounded a missed free throw with 18 seconds left, trailing Little Rock Christian by one point, 41-40.
