Greenwood (3-1, 9-3) went up against Greenbrier again in the second game of the doubleheader Friday night at Bulldog field.
Brandon Dunn was the starting pitcher for the Bulldogs and worked 3 innings before Corey Allison took over. Allison pitched 5 innings and lead the Bulldog rally having been down 5-3 when he came in. Allison had 4 strike outs with 4 hits given up.
All tied up at 7-7 at the end of 7 innings, an extra inning was needed to finish this one.
Having held the Panthers to no runs in the top of the 8th inning Casey Benincosa lead off the bottom of the 8th for the Bulldogs taking a walk after working the pitcher to a full count. Mark Leon was called upon to be the courtesy runner for Benincosa.
Nick Crouch would then step up for the Bulldogs with a big hit and advanced Leon all the way around to third.
Daniel Stegall up next for the Bulldogs ready to belt one out to give the Bulldogs the win, would not need to as the Panther pitcher threw a wild pitch to the left of their catcher allowing the quick Mark Leon to cross home plate and give the Bulldogs the win 8-7 over Greenbrier. The split with Greenbrier gives Greenwood only their third loss for the season, but the Bulldogs have also beaten all three teams that have beat them.
Conference play will resume next Friday at 4:00 PM in Clarksville as the Bulldogs will face more Panthers.
