Diamond Dogs Take First Place In Conference
Sweep Harrison

4-26-04 By: Brian Vaughn
The Bulldogs had to wait a little longer than they wanted to assume first place in the AAAA-West.
The Greenwood-Harrison game was rained out on Friday and had to be played on Monday, but not before another hour delay as another tournament was using the field in Harrison.
All the delays didn't slow the Bulldogs down though as they went right after the Harrison Goblins who up to that point had a perfect 10-0 record in conference action, but after tangling with the Greenwood Bulldogs were 10-2.
The Bulldogs took both games 14-7 and 14-2 in 5-innings.
The wins moved Greenwood to 22-6 overall and 11-1 in conference play.
"Two great wins at their place," said Coach Craig Jones following the game. "To come up here and score 28 runs, we swung the bats really well. That's a good ball club (Harrison), their not 10-0 for no reason."
Greenwood would light up the scoreboard in the game one of the doubleheader scoring 8 runs in the top of the 3rd-inning that included 7 consecutive hits for the Bulldogs.
Greenwood added 3 more runs in the 4th, but Harrison would flex some Goblin muscle in the bottom of the fourth loading the bases and scoring 4 runs in the inning to cut the Bulldogs lead to 11-5.
Harrison found some more room out in the field in the bottom of the 6th-inning to add 2 more runs to their total and cut the Bulldogs lead to 11-7.
The Bulldogs would score 3 more in the top of the 7th to secure the win 14-7.
Mark Leon pitched 5-innings for the Bulldogs giving up 5 hits with 4 strikeouts. Jantzen Black in relief pitched the final 2-innings allowing 1 hit with 1 strikeout.
Jason McDonald was 3 for 5, Jantzen Black 3 for 4 with 2 RBI, Casey Benincosa 2 for 5 with 4 RBI, Justin Fuchs HR 3 for 5 with 4 RBI, Ed Wookds 2 for 4 with an Woods.
In game two of the doubleheader Harrison jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the 1st inning, but the Bulldogs quickly tied it up at 2-2 in the top of the second on a Mark Leon home run and a Tieler Driscoll double.
Cory Allison pitching for the Bulldogs made short order of the Goblins in the bottom of the 2nd with three striaght strikeouts.
Greenwood's bats came alive in the 4th-inning as the Bulldogs raked up 7 runs in the inning and effectively took Harrison completely out of the ball game as the Bulldogs took game two 14-2 in a mercy ruled 5-inning.
Cory Allison pitched all 5-innings with 6 strikeouts and allowing 4 hits.
The bottom of the Bulldogs line-up would be where the power was in this game that included 6 hits out of them.
Mark Leon 1 for 2 with 1 RBI and HR, Justin Fuchs 1 for 2 with an RBI, Tieler straight 2 for 3 with an RBI and Jason McDonald 1 for 2 with 3 RBI.
