Baseball Falls To Van Buren..Takes Shiloh Christian
By: Brian Vaughn
The Greenwood Bulldogs stepped out of conference play on Monday to take on Van Buren once again for the fourth time. The Bulldogs won the first two contest.
The Diamond Dogs and Pointers battled to a 2-2 tie in 7-innings of play to send the game into extra-innings.
Van Buren would find the runs in the top of the 8th to win the game 4-2.
Tuesday brought about a trip up the hill to Shiloh Christian to face the Saints and after their loss to the Pointers a day earlier, the Bulldogs were looking for a win.
A win they would find taking the game 6-1 behind the pitching of Casey Benincosa whose 6-0 on the mound for the Bulldogs this year.
With the score 2-1 after 3-innings of play the Bulldogs would take a different approach relying on the small ball to get the runs in.
Coach Craig Jones loves to call for the bunt to advance his runners and he used it to perfection against the Saints giving the Bulldogs two additional runs.
The highlight of the evening was the defense of the Dogs as they turned two double plays and had several great catches including a foul ball up the first base line where Mark Leon almost took out the umpire, but still held onto the ball.
Casey Benincosa allowed 3 hits and posted 7 strikeouts.
