The Greenwood Bulldogs (8-3, 2-0) taking part in the Mountain Home CenturyTel Tournament faced 5A Little Rock Catholic in first round action on Friday afternoon.
The error bug once again would get the best of the Bulldogs in a 7-3 loss to Catholic.
Cory Allison started for the Bulldogs and pitched 4 1/3 innings giving up 6 hits and posting 5 strikeouts. Jantzen Black pitched the final 2 2/3 innings giving up 5 hits and posting 1 strikeout.
Jason McDonald went 2 for 4, Jantzen Black 2 for 3, Daniel Stegall 1 for 2 with 2 RBI's. Casey Benincosa picked off 2 of 3 attempting to steal second.
The Diamond Dogs would hit the field hungry on Saturday and refused to be denied their appetite to win.
In day two of the tourney the Bulldogs faced 3A Bald Knob. Bald Knob had lost to Springdale on Friday 3-0. The Bulldogs made quick work of Bald Knob 15-0 in a 5-inning mercy rule decision.
Mark Leon took the mound and just overpowered Bald Knob posting 11 strikeouts in 5-innings of work.
The Bulldogs posted plenty of offense led by Casey Benincosa 2 for 2 with 5 RBI's. Three of those RBI's were earned on a 2 out bases loaded double.
Dillion Black was 1 for 1 with 2 RBI's and Jantzen Black continued to show off his hot bat going 2 for 2 with 1 RBI.
Everyone who started the game got at least one hit in this contest, but the Dogs were still hungry.
In game two Saturday the Diamond Dogs squared off against 4A Greene County Tech.
After going down to Fort Smith Southside in Friday's action 11-3, Greene County was feeling confident having earned a mercy rule win over Salem earlier in the day.
The Bulldogs, however made quick work of erasing that confidence posting 6 runs in the top of the 1st-inning.
Casey Benincosa took the mound for the Bulldogs and earned the 5-inning 14-1 mercy rule win.
Benincosa posted 5 strikeouts and gave up only 2 hits in 5-innings of work.
Once again the Bulldogs bats were hot up and down the lineup with Justin Fuchs going 2 for 2 with 2 RBI's, Jantzen Black 2 for 4 with 1 RBI, Jason McDonald 2 for 3 with 1 RBI, Casey Benincosa 11 for 3 with 1 RBI and Cory Allison 2 for 4.
The Diamond Dogs travel to Van Buren's Field of Dreams Monday for a 4:00 varsity game with the junior varsity game following. Then the Bulldogs step back into conference play traveling to Greenbrier on Thursday for a double-header starting at 4:00.
